Joining Post 836

Post 836 seeks highly motivated young adults whose ultimate interest is a career in Firefighting and Emergency Medical Care. We will make every effort possible to prepare a cadet for the fire academy, however it is important to note that how much a cadet receives from the program is proportional to the effort with which he or she engages themselves. Firefighting is a serious business with much to learn. If you apply yourself, you will succeed. Our knowledge is yours to have.

Membership in Post 836 is limited to a specific number of explorers. Post 836 will hold one annual open house and take in new explorers at that time.  Please contact us for the next open house dates and times.

During the school year we typically meet on rotating Monday evenings from 7pm to 9pm. Competitions, special training events, fundraisers, and volunteering opportunities occur at other times throughout the year.

During regular meetings, Cadets will conduct Post 836 business and train in firefighting and medical skills. All of our members are minimally trained in CPR, First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogens Awareness.

Members must:

  • Be aged 14-18 (14 year old cadets must be in the 9th grade to be considered for the post, and those already in the program can continue to the age of 21).
  • Be a resident of Martin County.
  • Have reliable transportation to all Explorer events.
  • Complete Interview
  • Be able to participate in physical activities.  Explorer will provide approval by physician to participate in Fire Explorer activities and provide passing drug screen results.
  • Provide two (2) letters of recommendation by current teachers
  • Be enrolled in a scholastic institution and must maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher, unless graduated with a diploma.
